Gretel Weyer

Born in 1984 in Saverne. Lives and works in Strasbourg.

In her sculptural work, Gretel Weyer transforms simple, everyday objects into fantastical situations that trigger the imagination. In this way, her work could be seen as a joyful celebration of childhood and innocence, in a fable-like atmosphere, against a backdrop of nature that oscillates between the deep forest of origins and the enchanted garden, and in a familiar iconography that borrows as much from popular imagery as from the settings of social and realist literature à la Mark Twain.

Gretel Weyer's work hybridizes a literary object, pictorial representation schemes and the grammar of cinema. Beyond the canons of popular imagery, it is the clichés of childhood that it aims to shake up, to shed a more realistic light on the complexity of notions of innocence and integrity.
