«The more immersive it is, the more satisfied I am,» asserts Ludivine Gonthier, in no uncertain terms. Noted for her audacity at the Lyon Biennale 2024 - notably for taking over an entire room at Lyon's Musée d'Art Contemporain with her paintings and presenting several striking large-format works - the young artist, a graduate of the Beaux-Arts in Paris, is already establishing herself as a powerful figure on the contemporary scene. For her, painting is a profoundly physical, almost carnal act. To paint is to immerse oneself, to lose oneself in the gesture, to abandon oneself to the material. And the more total the immersion, the more authentic the experience. This statement sets the tone for an inhabited, vibrant practice that seeks neither restraint nor consensus.
