John Stezaker is one of the leading artists of modern photographic collage and appropriation. Using vintage photographs, Hollywood film stills, travel postcards and other prints, Stezaker creates seductive and fascinating small-format collages that display features of Surrealism, Dada and found art. Referring to the vast collection of images he has collected, Stezaker asserts that it is the images that «find» him, not the other way around. With surgical precision, Stezaker excises, superimposes and combines distinct images to create new personalities, landscapes and scenes.
